February 6 - March 31, 2008 Allensworth: 100 Years of the California Dream

The California Legislative Black Caucus invites you to attend the exhibit opening reception of Allensworth: 100 Years of the California Dream, Celebrating the Centennial of the Historic Town of Allensworth and Its Impact on California. The reception is 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the State Capitol Basement. Refreshments will be served and docents will be available to answer your questions. RSVP to Jennifer Guzman at (916) 651-4026 The exhibit will be at the State Capitol, Museum Library Exhibit Room from February 6 - March 31, 2008. Hourly tours run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

February 9 & 23, 2008 Black History Month
10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
February events focus primarily on providing an educational and fun time for school children. Visitors receive guided tours of the park's historic building. Speakers provide lectures on the history of the park and African-Americans.
April 26, 2008 Gospel Fest
10:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
The Allensworth Community Volunteer Association (A.C.V.A.) will host a Gospel Fest at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park on Saturday, April 26, 2008. There will be Gospel groups from all over California. Come enjoy the great speaker’s and make sure you stop at the Open Air Market, with Art’s & Crafts, and Food Vendor’s.
The A.C.V.A. is still looking for groups to perform at the gospel fest. If you have a group or know of a group that would like to perform in the gospel fest please contact Valerie Holton at (323) 750-9267 or Blacklatours@aol.com.

Every year the town of Allensworth had a big bash. This
is the time of year when the carnival came to town. The
Friends of Allensworth provide a great family festival atmosphere with entertainment featuring...gospel, jazz and
drama. There are even activities strictly
for the young and even the toddlers. In addition
to the free self paced tours of the historic
buildings, you can talk to some of the original pioneers and
their heirs. This is the best family
bargain in the state, because there is more.
You can even shop at the open air arts and craft market. When
you get hungry, you can eat some of the
best variety of ethnic food for miles around.

Celebration

Join us for the 11th annual celebration. There's plenty
of sunshine for those who love warm weather. This day
is celebrated by African Americans in honor of their ancestors
who received notice of being set free from slavery later (June
19th) than the majority of slaves elsewhere in the country. There's
great entertainment, great speakers and, of course, a fabulous
tour of the historic buildings given free by the Friends of
Allensworth volunteers for your educational experience. Lots
of great food and beverages as well
August 2, 2008 Founders Day

Join us for the celebration of the founding of the town on August 4, 1908. There will be
great entertainment, speakers, and
tours of the historic buildings given by the Friends of
Allensworth volunteers. Lots
of great food and beverages as well.
October 11, 2008 Rededication
Day
10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Join us for the 31st annual rededication. This festive
event is presented to renew our commitment to the parks and
its symbolic representation of self determination for all
African Americans in the area of education and economic development. Friday
evening you can sit around the camp fire and enjoy great story
telling in the park's camp ground. Saturday you enjoy
the works... free self-guided tours and special living
history programs.
October 11, 2008 2nd Annual Colonel Allensworth Century and Fun Ride
7:30 A.M.
Crankin' Time Cycling presents the 2nd Annual Colonel Allensworth Century and Fun Ride, 100 Years of the California Dream. The Allensworth Century and Fun Ride is a bike ride from Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park across the farmlands of California's San Joaquin Valley and the beautiful foothills of the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains.
There will be four routes: 100 miles for advanced rides, 90 miles for intermediate/advanced rides, 80 miles for beginner/intermediate rides and 40 miles for beginners. The ride will conclude with a Buffalo Soldier style BBQ lunch.
